Research of existing music videos - DJ Fresh - gold dust

This video is effective because unlike with Chase & Status, during the chorus of the song which speeds up instantly, the shots remain long takes but the content (skipping) speeds up which remains in time with the song so works just as effectively as shorter takes in time with the music. The skipping controls the pace of the music video and shot lengths.
The video involves a variety of ages and talents playing games but they're all very talented, I want to have actors with a similar talent level in  other sports. The video doesn't include many special effects apart from slow motion, which was effective with the skipping in capturing the expressions of each actor. While I feel this was very successful and I will try and re-capture that in my own video, I will try and include more effects to try and portray a wide range of skills.

Initial Ideas

I have to so initial ideas, they are similar ideas but based around two different songs. I like to mind map my ideas because this means i can link parts together and getting everything down on paper before I start adapting it. One of the main parts of mise en scene that I want to focus on more than the others is camera angles. This is going to be important especially to show the change in perspective between the characters. It will also give the video an edge.

Editing - Transitions (Preliminary Task)

A key part of our music video is when he appears at a different location so I spent some time adding cool transition effects to the footage. The first one is a dissolve and directional blur this doesn't quite have the flow I wanted because the shots were filmed on separate days meaning the camera angles are different. The second is a cross zoom, I prefer this one because it hides the cut between the shots a lot better making it almost seem like one take; this will be the one we use in the final cut.

Filming at Maddermarket

Friday last week I spent a couple of hours filming at Maddermarket theatre with my actor. The theatre had a balcony level which I used to film an extreme high level. The actually stage wasn't quite like what I imagined so spent most of my time focused on tight angle shots and certain features like her feet, arms and face. The stage didnt have the dramatic curtains or wings like I would imagine of a theatre because this venue is used for smaller productions. The dressing rooms were really good to film in, they looked like typical dressing rooms with the lights around the mirror. The lights meant everything was clear so close up footage of her face shows her emotions clearly. With the footage I plan to cut it up into short shots to put in with her training in the ballet studio. This is the shot list I did before going to the theatre so I had some ideas of what shots I wanted to film. As I hadn't visited the theatre before it was hard to know what shots would look good. ...
