Location Research

Skate Parks

Eaton park in Norwich would be an ideal location for filming with a skateboarder; it's outside and free so we could film at anytime. There would be a good atmosphere if we film when there are other skateboarders around.  We also looked out Beccles skate park which is similar to Eaton. The other option is to film at an inside skate park, for this we would need to get permission and it's likely to be a lot more busy which can be good or bad. The charge unit in Norwich could be good for this.

Ballet Studio

As the ballerina we have trains at the ARTS school our plan was to contact them and ask to film in one of their studios; also it would be really good to get some footage of her dancing with her class as well. The other option is to ask to use Judith Fox ballet studio which is in Wymondham and has a lot of students from the school so that might be willing to let us film there at a time when it's not being used.

Boxing Club

My friend suggested we contact Hewett school because they have a boxing ring which they might let us use to film. I did some research into this and found out that it is used by Norwich Lads boxing club. Another club in Norwich that looked really good was Norwich Diamonds ABC which focus on training young people. We will probably contact both clubs and hope one will be willing to let us film there.

Initial Ideas

I have to so initial ideas, they are similar ideas but based around two different songs. I like to mind map my ideas because this means i can link parts together and getting everything down on paper before I start adapting it. One of the main parts of mise en scene that I want to focus on more than the others is camera angles. This is going to be important especially to show the change in perspective between the characters. It will also give the video an edge.

Editing - Transitions (Preliminary Task)

A key part of our music video is when he appears at a different location so I spent some time adding cool transition effects to the footage. The first one is a dissolve and directional blur this doesn't quite have the flow I wanted because the shots were filmed on separate days meaning the camera angles are different. The second is a cross zoom, I prefer this one because it hides the cut between the shots a lot better making it almost seem like one take; this will be the one we use in the final cut.

Filming at Maddermarket

Friday last week I spent a couple of hours filming at Maddermarket theatre with my actor. The theatre had a balcony level which I used to film an extreme high level. The actually stage wasn't quite like what I imagined so spent most of my time focused on tight angle shots and certain features like her feet, arms and face. The stage didnt have the dramatic curtains or wings like I would imagine of a theatre because this venue is used for smaller productions. The dressing rooms were really good to film in, they looked like typical dressing rooms with the lights around the mirror. The lights meant everything was clear so close up footage of her face shows her emotions clearly. With the footage I plan to cut it up into short shots to put in with her training in the ballet studio. This is the shot list I did before going to the theatre so I had some ideas of what shots I wanted to film. As I hadn't visited the theatre before it was hard to know what shots would look good. ...
