Research 3 (Preliminary Task)

Tears for Fears - head over heels doesn't have a similar storyline to our idea but it was produced at the same time as the safety dance so it is useful research for our music video.
The story is pretty easy to understand the boy likes the girl, but the feelings aren't mutual. The video has a few strange elements, such as the monkey. The footage is a lot of long, close up shots that show the emotion on the singers face well; these we could use on the boy. On the editing side there's a lot of transitions like cross fading between shots, which we have talked about using to link the locations in the music video. The storyline has a definite ending, showing them in the future, this is going to be important for our music video so the story is explain and it all makes sense.

Song Choice

I've chosen to use Powerless by Rudimental as the song for my music video. This has been one of my potential choices from when I first changed my idea. I wasn't really sure whether it would fit or not but after I put it with my footage to see how they went together, I thought they fitted really well. I've divided the song into sections of the choruses and verses so that I can match my footage accordingly. The music video to this already contains a strong narrative as do many of Rudimental's videos.

Initial Ideas

I have to so initial ideas, they are similar ideas but based around two different songs. I like to mind map my ideas because this means i can link parts together and getting everything down on paper before I start adapting it. One of the main parts of mise en scene that I want to focus on more than the others is camera angles. This is going to be important especially to show the change in perspective between the characters. It will also give the video an edge.

Editing - Transitions (Preliminary Task)

A key part of our music video is when he appears at a different location so I spent some time adding cool transition effects to the footage. The first one is a dissolve and directional blur this doesn't quite have the flow I wanted because the shots were filmed on separate days meaning the camera angles are different. The second is a cross zoom, I prefer this one because it hides the cut between the shots a lot better making it almost seem like one take; this will be the one we use in the final cut.
