Ancillary Research Task - digipak

A Digipak is a type of CD packaging that is made out of several card stocks such as heavy paper or cardboard. Digipaks are often quite similar to a flip book that can sometimes have three or double parts, so that one portion of the packaging opens to the right and on to the left or opens all in one of either sides and the CD would be in the centre of the portion.

Outside Cover

Inside Cover
This is an A grade students Digipak from last year. It is very clearly linked to the video by using the main actor on the outside cover. Having seen many  of Twenty One Pilots artwork the outside cover definitely looks like something they would produce. The inside cover is more linked to the song and doesn't fit as well with the outside or I would say the artists style. However I can see why the student chose to use the polarise effect and the photo has
obviously taken while filming. I do like the way the photo goes
over both panels and the same on the outside cover.

Front Cover

Back Cover
This is The Weeknds' album beauty behind the madness released in August 2015. I think this album works really well; his face is on the front cover this states that this is clearly his album and because he features in all his music video there is a clear connection. The black with yellow makes the writing stand out and is a clear theme through the whole digipak; I have noticed that most albums have a clear colour scheme. The cover itself is simple but really reflects the
tittle and that reflects him as an artist.

Final Plot Ideas (Preliminary Task)

This is our final plot ideas: The main character (a young boy) puts on his superhero mask and runs into his garden to get into his tent/den. The tent then transports him into another woodland world in which there will be others all dancing. In the middle of all the dancing and partying in the new forest the young boy will trip up/fall over in some way and as he hits the floor he will be transported back to his garden and outside the tent/den.  The boy will then realise he's back home and may be greeted by his mother asking wheres he been (that scene will be dependant on availability of actors). We tried to keep our idea as simplistic as possible, this was to ensure that we didn't over complicate the meaning of the video which is simply just about the young boy enjoying himself in his own imagination when he has the safety of his superhero costume on.

Questionnaire

After publishing my rough cut I made a short questionnaire to get some constructive criticism to use to make changes before submitting my final cut.  I got really good feedback from my questionnaire about my rough cut. There was mostly 3s and 4s for how well people understood the narrative. I was quite happy with this because the video isn't suppose to show the whole narrative but it's aim is to introduce the characters. My target audience felt that the video strongly fitted with the song, with most people voted a 4 or 5. I'm really happy with this and it means I have been able to recreate the emotion of the song in the video. Most people said they liked the way I cross cut between the two characters and the variation of shots. The general consensus was there was something missing from the video, a couple of people suggested a third element of artist performance that could link the singer to the audience; I really liked this idea and decided to look into it further. ...
