Ancillary Task Research - magazine advertisement

The poster is to accompany the digipak and advertise the album. Most poster will have a clear link to the album, for example using the same colour scheme. The poster shouldn't just be a copy of the album cover but show more of what it's about. This is an A2 poster from one of last years students. I think this works really well; the text over the top of the image looks really good it's very bold and colourful which contrasts with the greyscale image behind. It's definitely different and abstract this fits with the music video which is about being a misfit in society. I think the four band members could do with being more in the foreground of the photo so it's clear on who they are and they will become more part of the poster. Back Cover Front Cover This is a poster advert for the Coldplay album a Head Full of Dreams on the front and back cover of NME magazine. The same font and colour scheme has been used of both covers to show they are cl

Ancillary Research Task - digipak

A Digipak is a type of CD packaging that is made out of several card stocks such as heavy paper or cardboard. Digipaks are often quite similar to a flip book that can sometimes have three or double parts, so that one portion of the packaging opens to the right and on to the left or opens all in one of either sides and the CD would be in the centre of the portion. Outside Cover Inside Cover This is an A grade students Digipak from last year. It is very clearly linked to the video by using the main actor on the outside cover. Having seen many  of Twenty One Pilots artwork the outside cover definitely looks like something they would produce. The inside cover is more linked to the song and doesn't fit as well with the outside or I would say the artists style. However I can see why the student chose to use the polarise effect and the photo has  obviously taken while filming. I do like the way the photo goes over both panels and the same on the outside cover.

Consumption of music videos

Since the invention of the internet, the ways of consuming music videos has grown from just being on TV channels like 4 music and MTV to social media sites, YouTube and VEVO. Many record companies and artists have social media sites were they will post teasers of new music and videos to followers with links to watch the full videos. music videos are now viewed by a mass audience. Sites like YouTube have auto play and a recommend and trending section to attract people to view other videos.

Success of music videos

Music videos are so varied nowadays that it is hard to say what constitutes success. This is likely to be due to the capability of modern technology making it easier to produce music videos and platforms like YouTube where these videos are accessible to a mass audience. There are trends in music videos for example and linear narrative and live performance. Linear narrative is used to tell the story of the song so it can add emotion to the music and create a visual image for the audience. This can also make the song more memorable. Having live performance is to promote the artist as well as the song. This can be successful as it introduces the audience to the artist and can increase their fan base. Many music videos will combine a narrative and live performance this can be very effective as well.

Filming at Maddermarket

Friday last week I spent a couple of hours filming at Maddermarket theatre with my actor. The theatre had a balcony level which I used to film an extreme high level. The actually stage wasn't quite like what I imagined so spent most of my time focused on tight angle shots and certain features like her feet, arms and face. The stage didnt have the dramatic curtains or wings like I would imagine of a theatre because this venue is used for smaller productions. The dressing rooms were really good to film in, they looked like typical dressing rooms with the lights around the mirror. The lights meant everything was clear so close up footage of her face shows her emotions clearly. With the footage I plan to cut it up into short shots to put in with her training in the ballet studio. This is the shot list I did before going to the theatre so I had some ideas of what shots I wanted to film. As I hadn't visited the theatre before it was hard to know what shots would look good.

Alok and Bruno Martini - Here Me Now

I watched this music video the other day and it has stuck in my mind since. This video has such a powerful story and really captivates the audience and provokes an emotional response. I really like the way the past and present stories flow together without confusing the viewer. The video is also really simple only 3 characters and 1 location this works because it means you aren't distracted from the story.

Location Research - The garage

The Garage is a hub for performing arts located in Norwich which supports varied artists and participants. The company rent out the ballet studios for private hire so I have sent them an email to see about hiring the space to use to film both of my actors.

Swan Queen

In swan lake it's tradition for one dancer to perform as both the white and black swan. The white and black swan are polar opposite, the white one good and pure, the black one evil and manipulative. This is similar to the my idea in that I wanted to have a character with two different personalities so I'm going to adapt this so that my character also has good and evil chracteristics in her life as well as while dancing as the black and white swan.
